Massage Therapy is a scientific systematic approach to treating soft tissue, and various connective tissue imbalances in the human body. Muscles are isolated, and fixed or moveable pressure is applied in order to reduce pain and improve mobility.
Massage Therapy is a profession in which the practitioner applies manual techniques, and may apply adjunctive therapies, with the intention of positively affecting the health and well-being of the client. Practitioners utilize primarily the hands, knuckles and forearms to employ a variety of massage techniques.
The primary goal of massage therapy is to enhance the bodies own healing processes, and to promote health and a sense of well being. Our Massage Therapists have been selected for their experience and interest in Physical Therapy.
Types of Massage
In North America massage therapy is broken down into two classifications, relaxation and therapeutic. During relaxation massage, commonly known as Swedish massage the practitioners focus is on purely relaxing the individual by applying strokes that are lighter and faster. During therapeutic work the massage therapist targets deeper muscle layers and connective tissue to reduce pain and enhance range of motion. Deep tissue work tends to focus on a specific problem such as chronic pain or a repetitive strain injury.
